Beginning in January 2020, The Daniel Plan, 40 Days to a Healthier Life, authored by Rick Warren, Dr. Daniel Amen, and Dr. Mark Hyman, will be offered in two small group settings at Paxtonville UMC. Pastor Rick, author of The Purpose Driven Life, began this lifestyle change when he realized he was overweight as were many people in the congregation. After preaching about Daniel, a man from the Bible who refused to eat junk food and challenged a king to a health contest, Pastor Rick named the program, The Daniel Plan. 12,000 congregants joined Pastor Rick’s challenge to a healthier lifestyle and in the first year lost a total of 250,000 pounds!
Quoting Pastor Rick, “The Daniel Plan is far more than a diet. It is a lifestyle program based on biblical principles and five essential components: Food, Fitness, Focus, Faith, and Friends. The last two components – faith and friends – are what I call the secret sauce that makes The Daniel Plan so effective. When you have God and a group helping you, you now have far more than willpower helping you make positive changes, and you are far more likely to stay consistent.”
To further quote Pastor Rick, “[it] is really quite simple. Dedicate your body to God. Ask for his help, and get involved in a small group of some kind that will support you on your journey…The Daniel Plan is built with love as the motivation: Experiencing God’s unconditional love for you, learning to love him back, learning to love whom God made you to be, and learning to give and receive love from others in a small group setting.”
Small groups begin on January 28 at 6:00 pm and January 29 at 10:00 am. Groups, open to men and women, are scheduled to meet for an hour and a half, and will last six weeks. Necessary for the group is the purchase of the book and study guide, The Daniel Plan, 40 Days to a Healthier You, which includes scriptural foundations, recipes, meal plans, and fitness and goal setting ideas. Approximate cost of these materials is $25.00.
